Swire Coca-Cola, USA Breaks Ground on a New Facility in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, Colorado – April 6, 2021 – Swire Coca-Cola, USA broke ground today on its newest facility, a 145,000 square-foot building set on a 17.27-acre parcel in Colorado Springs that will house Swire’s 140 employees in Colorado Springs. The site was selected to support continued growth and allow for expansion in the future.

Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers and City Councilmembers Tom Strand, as well as the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Economic development Council, joined Swire Coca-Cola’s Colorado Leadership for a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday morning to mark the start of construction.

“We are thankful to the team at Swire Coca-Cola for their continued commitment to Colorado Springs and for bringing energy and opportunity to our city’s Southeast side, an area of town experiencing an exciting rise in economic momentum,” said Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers. “We’re grateful for the investment in our community and appreciate the thoughtful building efforts and forward-thinking focus on sustainability.”

The new facility was designed for efficiency, with west-facing open concept architecture and glass walls to maximize natural heat and light. In addition, the building will be outfitted with a 900-kilowatt solar array to power the building. The inclusion of solar power in the design will help support Swire Coca-Cola’s goal of generating 100% renewable energy for its core operations by 2026.

“Swire Coca-Cola is committed to be the best employer, the best business partner and the best corporate citizen wherever we do business,” said Craig Hagler, Rocky Mountain Division Vice President for Swire Coca-Cola. “Building a new, larger sales center in Colorado Springs supports this mission by giving our people much needed office and meeting space, double the warehouse space for the approximately 800 products we provide to local businesses, all while being carefully designed to minimize the new building’s impact on the environment.”

Swire Coca-Cola produces, sells and distributes Coca-Cola and other beverages in Colorado and 12 other states across the American West. Headquartered in Utah, the company acquired the existing Colorado Springs sales center in 2014. Since that time, the growth of Swire’s business in Colorado Springs and surrounding areas has driven the need for a larger facility.

The company’s plan to generate 100% renewable energy for its core operations by 2026 is part of its 2030 Sustainable Development Plan, which was launched last year. Under the plan, Swire Coca-Cola also plans to collect one bottle or can for each one it sells and increase recycled content in its packaging to 50% by 2030 while also making its packaging 100% recyclable by 2025.

Swire Coca-Cola has been a long-time supporter of Mt. Carmel Veterans Services Center, Wounded Warriors Project, Homefront Military Network, Care and Share Food Bank, Visit Colorado Springs and many others.

The new sales center will be located on the southeast side of Colorado Springs near the airport. Construction is expected to cost $21.7 million and be completed in the Spring of 2022.
